Dear Doctor:
This has been a memorable year in the history of our noble profession. Like most of the nation’s “practicing” physicians, we are certain you are concerned, even troubled by the direction American healthcare and the practice of medicine is heading as a result of the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (PPACA). Many of us are angry and frustrated by the AMA’s total lack of leadership and self-serving position in representing our interests and have concerns with the legislative language of the bill. Most of our specialty societies and state/local medical societies were just as inept as the AMA and are complicit in this fiasco. Furthermore, it is obvious the AMA abandoned us in order to protect it’s coveted government sanctioned billing code monopoly in exchange for politicians’ empty promises to seriously address the substantive issues we all face, such as the punitive Medicare SGR formula and long overdue professional liability reform.
Although this bill has been signed into law, we should not be deflated into surrender. Most of us fail to realize the great deal of power we hold and there are many things we can do as a profession to reverse course, since the most threatening features to patients and our profession will be phased in over time and the bill will not be fully implemented until 2014.
Perhaps you are one of the tens of thousands of physicians who have had enough and want to speak out on this issue, yet, feel you lack the time, energy and information to be effective. Maybe you even believe it is too late to do anything to save the profession and protect your patients. Are you wondering, “why should I even waste my precious time when I pay a lot of money each year to these professional societies that accomplish nothing?”The good news is, it is NOT too late, you CAN make a difference and Docs4PatientCare is NOT these "other" organizations.
Our goal is to become the organization that will be the trusted voice for the nation’s physicians and patients. Our opportunity for success and influence will largely depend on achieving a membership with significant numbers of involved and committed physicians. There is no more time to be apathetic, misinformed and politically disengaged. Please take a stand with us and join D4PC today!
