Haynes: Healthcare Rationing George Orwell-Style

Monday, September 05, 2011

D4PC Board Member Beth Haynes spoke out on TownHall.com on the myriad ways the government rations access to health care:

"Just over a year ago, the Christian Science Monitor reported on an antitrust case by the Department of Justice against Idaho orthopedists who, in refusing to accept government price controls, were found guilty of 'price fixing.' The DOJ hubristically declared, 'Government prices are market prices.' In this Orwellian move, the government declared voluntary prices to be price-fixing, and government-determined prices to be market prices. Anyone with common sense can see that changing terminology does not change reality.

In Case You Missed It: Think the Government Handled the Financial Crisis Badly? Just Wait, Because Health Care Is Next

Thursday, August 25, 2011

Dr. Ha Scherz's latest op-ed was featured on FoxNews.com today, and his perspective is frightening:

"If you have been watching the unraveling of our economy over the past several weeks, then what is coming very soon to health care should really get your attention. The financial world has reacted negatively and punished us for the misguided policies of President Obama and his economic team.

"Simply substitute Treasury Secretary Timothy Geitner with HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, former White House budget direct Peter Orszag with CMS director Donald Berwick, and economic advisor Larry Summers with health care adviser Nancy Ann Deparle, and you get an idea of the types of individuals and the level of competence of those who are now at the helm of the health care system."

Dr. Mark Neerhof in the Washington Times

Wednesday, May 25, 2011

Today the Washington Times featured a story by Docs 4 Patient Care member Dr. Mark Neerhof:

"In a chapter titled 'Who, Whom?' from his classic book 'The Road to Serfdom,' F. A. Hayek warned of the universal problem of a socialist society: 'Who plans whom, who directs and dominates whom, who assigns to other people their station in life, and who is to have his due allotted by others?'

"The budget battle currently under way in Washington is about much more than money and debt. It is about who we are as a people and what we are to become. This struggle is epitomized in the discussion over Medicare..."

In Case You Missed It: Doctors Drowning In Alphabet Soup by Hal Scherz

Tuesday, March 08, 2011

Docs4PatientCare founder Dr. Hal Scherz featured on TownhallFinance.com...

"It took nearly 2 years, but President Obama did something right by creating the Deficit Commission.

"Their recommendations have managed to roil nearly everyone by taking on some sacred cows such as Social Security and the tax code, but as bold as their recommendations have been, they did not go far enough.

"No serious discussion about deficit reduction can take place if healthcare is excluded..."

In Case You Missed It: The Growing Battle Over Berwick

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

Docs4PatientCare founder Dr. Hal Scherz from RealClearPolitics...

Even with last week's Elaine Sherrod -NAACP media uproar, the Obama administration's recess appointment of Dr. Donald Berwick as Medicare czar continued stirring controversy, with Senate Republicans "spoiling for a fight" and "escalating the conflict" according to the Washington Examiner's Byron York. Putting the unpopular Obamacare measure back on the political front burner just as Democratic candidates were hoping it had gone away, the administration's decision to bypass congressional committee hearings with the Berwick appointment had an angry Kansas Senator Pat Roberts introducing an "abuse of power" resolution and Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell making it pointedly clear GOP cooperation on even routine Senate business was now in question.
