Can anyone say, "We told you so?" There is an abundance of historical data proving that when government officials attempt to predict future costs of federal entitlement programs, they invariably grossly miscalculate and underestimate the "actual" costs. The PPACA is not even two years old and government bean counters are already back tracking on their original calculations.
Cost estimates for a key portion of President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul law have ballooned by $111 billion from last year’s budget… the estimated cost of helping millions of middle-class Americans buy health insurance has jumped by about 30 percent for an eight-year period, from 2014-2021. Last year’s budget estimated the cost of the aid to be $367 billion from 2014-2021. This year’s budget puts it at $478 billion over the same period.

Feds OK Deep Cuts to California's Medicaid Program, Threatening Access to Care

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that the federal government has approved a proposal by the State of California that will allow the state to impose dramatic cuts to the reimbursement rate paid to health care providers. The Times reports: "California plans to reduce rates by 10% to many providers, including physicians, dentists, clinics, pharmacies and most nursing homes, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced Thursday."

While D4PC may not agree with every aspect, we do endorse the idea of increasing quality and decreasing cost by promoting competition in a free-market that empowers patients to control the flow of money while retaining their ability to make informed independent decisions with their doctors.

Is the Obama Administration Closing Down the CLASS Act?

Based on the signals emanating from Washington, the Obama Administration may be shuttering the CLASS Act long-term care insurance program contained in ObamaCare. According to reports, the chief actuary for the program, Bob Yee, sent an email to colleagues saying that: "“HHS has decided to close down the CLASS Office effective tomorrow."
