Why Should Doctors Trust the Government?

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Dr. Mike Koriwchak has published a new article that analyzes the Obama Administration's proposal (since abandoned but probably only temporarily) to spy on doctors.  The New York Times had reported that the Administration had developed a plan to engage "mystery shoppers" to pose as patients with health problems to call doctors to ascertain how the doctors would respond.

Dr. Koriwchak explained that this practice is not only bad policy but unethical.  First, the study would have wasted taxpayer money without adding any information that is not already known - America has a shortage of primary care physicians.  Second, the government's proposal is unethical because the subjects of the study, doctors and nurses, would be forced to participate without their knowledge or consent. Finally, the study would have gathered information from American doctors through deception and under false pretenses.

For these reasons and others, the government's "behavior makes it difficult for physicians to accept the government as a viable business partner."

This Week's Obamacare Bombshell, CNSnews.com

Friday, July 08, 2011
Last week we learned the Obama HHS administration was prepared to spend millions of taxpayer dollars to send out "fake" patients to spy on the nation's doctors, allegedly, to determine if they were discriminating against patients based on their medical insurance status.  This is another perfect illustration of the ineptitude and disregard for the American taxpayer by government officials.  What makes this story especially egregious is not only is it a terrible waste of time/money since the information is already documented and available, but these government agents were willing to take appointments from legitimate patients seeking medical care.

Now the saga continues as we find out that newly appointed Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan was involved in preparing a defense of the new healthcare law while she worked as Solicitor General in the White House.  It is expected that current constitutional challenges to Obamacare will reach the Supreme Court within the next year.  By law, Justice Kagan needs to recuse herself from rendering a judicial opinion since she was involved in the case prior to being confirmed to the nation's highest court. House Republicans are calling for a Department of Justice investigation of the matter.  This is a very significant development, but based on all the other 'tricks, schemes, bribes and favors" employed to pass this disaster into law, it will interesting to see where this inquiry goes.
