The Whole Truth (Video By Texas D4PC Chapter Leaders, Jane Hughes, MD and Kris Held, MD)

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

Docs 4 Patient Care Texas Chapter leaders, Jane Hughes, MD, and Kris Held, MD, independently produced this short video which refutes the claims made by Democrats that US Representative Paul Ryan's plan to save Medicare will hurt America's senior citizens. As we've demonstrated throughout this website and our social media pages, the only legislation that will weaken and destroy Medicare "as we know it" is the president's PPACA (Obamacare). As the doctors explain in this video, Obamacare calls for the cutting of $575 Billion out of the Medicare program and places unaccountable healthcare decision-making in the hands of the new Independent Payment Advisory Board.

D4PC finds this video provocative and informative and we are proud to promote projects that re-introduce the healthcare reform discussion and which provide the public with the viewpoint and perspective of the nation's "practicing" physicians.

US Representative Paul Ryan On Health Insurance Reform at the Hoover Institute, September 27, 2011

Wednesday, September 28, 2011
While no health insurance reform proposal will be perfect, Representative Ryan's is undoubtedly one of the only serious discussions emanating from Washington.  While D4PC may not agree with every aspect, we do endorse the idea of increasing quality and decreasing cost by promoting competition in a free-market that empowers patients to control the flow of money while retaining their ability to make informed independent decisions with their doctors.

Two Approaches to Medicare Reform: Rationing vs. Individual Choice

Thursday, August 18, 2011

Contrary to the political talking points emanating from Washington, D.C., there are politicians of both parties who have looked at Medicare's finances and determined that the current path is unsustainable. Responsible politicians, both Democrats and Republicans, have proposed reforms to curb the growth in spending of this vital program.  In fact, Avik Roy writes for Forbes that the cuts proposed by both parties "would impose comparable reductions in the growth of Medicare spending."

Double Deference and the House GOP’s Fair-weather Federalism

The Republican call for national tort reform, although commendible, is somewhat of a concern. If the Federal goverment can regulate malpractice, why can't it mandate ways to cover healthcare costs, like it is doing under the new healthcare law via the individual mandate? The Commerce Clause is a sword that carves out more control for the federal government and is a dangerous weapon to wield.

Constitutional scholar Randy Barnett confirmed our fears in the two above pieces on this subject.

The Budget Debate We All Deserve, Chicago Tribune

Tuesday, May 17, 2011
   "Shared scarcity" vs. "renewed prosperity"

[T]he House-passed budget gets health care spending under control by empowering Americans to fight back against skyrocketing costs. Our budget makes no changes for those in or near retirement, and offers future generations a strengthened Medicare program they can count on, with guaranteed coverage options, less help for the wealthy, and more help for the poor and the sick...

Our budget would achieve this by letting seniors act as value-conscious consumers in a transparent and competitive market. Our plan is to give seniors the power to deny business to inefficient health care providers. The Obama plan is to give government the power to deny health care to seniors.

Premium Support Will Be Good for Seniors

Tuesday, April 05, 2011

Grace-Marie Turner, president of the Galen Institute, wrote a commentary this week in support of House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan's proposal to implement premium support for Medicare. She makes the case that, "Ryan is working to save Medicare with his proposal to begin modernizing the program through premium support."

"Opponents of the proposal have charged that Ryan is planning to voucherize Medicare. But that shows a misunderstanding of the proposal. In contrast with vouchers, premium support allows for more flexible subsidies that can be adjusted and targeted to seniors based upon financial status, age, health status, or other considerations."
