Feds Insurance Cost Reviews Reveal Inconvenient Truths, Forbes Magazine

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

Even though the PPACA was signed into law one year ago, the promises made are not being achieved. Insurance companies are raising premiums or dropping out of the marketplace altogether in response to the increased demands mandated by the legislation.  In order to provide political cover and find a new villain, the Obama administration is micro-manging the insurance market by setting up new bureaucracies to determine the merit of premium increases. This government meddling and establishing of price controls is precisely what got us here in the first place and will only serve to continue the problem of decreased market competition and rising prices.

British Surgeons Raise Alarm Over Long Wait Times

Thursday, April 07, 2011

The British news Agency, BBC, describes growing physician concern over long wait times and new rationing algorithms designed by politicians desperately trying to cut billions of dollars from the bloated, dysfunctional British National Health Service(NHS).  In most areas of Great Britain, patients are waiting longer for elective procedures while their conditions often deteriorate.  Physicians are speaking out in increasing numbers since the bureucratic backlog often results in patients experiencing inferior outcomes once they finally have surgery.  This is of major concern since the president's choice to direct Medicare and Medicaid while implementing the new healthcare law is none other than Dr. Donald Berwick.  Dr. Berwick is the Harvard academic who is "romantic" about the British NHS and admits he wants to replicate its features and rationing mechanisms in the new American healthcare sysem.  This is not good news for patients in the long-term if Obamacare is not repealed and replaced with alternative reform proposals..
