ObamaCare's Real World Impact

Thursday, December 15, 2011

Dr. Paul Hsieh, a member of D4PC's Colorado chapter and a founder of Freedom and Individual Rights in Medicine, has published a wonderful piece on FIRM's blog about the real world impact on ObamaCare. In his commentary he tells the story of "Dr. Monica H." (name withheld for privacy reasons), who explains that as a part-time worker at several institutions she is responsible for paying for her own healthcare.

She recognizes that once ObamaCare kicks in, instead of providing guaranteed healthcare, her several employers will likely reduce her workload (and thus her pay) in order to avoid ObamaCare's employer mandates. Thus, ObamaCare will create incentives for employers to hire many part time workers instead of a few full time workers which in turn will reduce the size of America's middle class.

Dr. Hsieh also adds this very insightful political commentary: "many on the Left actively want Americans to be frustrated with private insurance industry under ObamaCare. That way they can say, "See, we tried it the 'free market' way and it failed; that's why we need a government 'single-payer' system". (Of course, the failure would be due to government policies that destroyed the free market, not the free market itself.)"
